Biography

Brian is described as “a dedicated team member, with a management style of servant leadership.”  Brian views the big picture to find results that benefit all parties involved through pre-planning and proactive action.  He can quickly formulate a plan that will work while making the decisions, and taking actions, to support the plan.

He is proficient in the various aspects of Emergency Management, and exercises, including the documentation associated with HSEEP.  He has also served in the various roles of the ICS system during his career.  He additionally served as the Exercise Director for the Gunnison County Wide MCI Drill 2014 which included 36 agencies (both public emergency services, the school district, public health, and several volunteer agencies).  Brian is also familiar with the requirements of the Joint Commission, and CMS, concerning emergency management. As a former Emergency Manager for a Critical Access Hospital (including EMS) he gained a wide variety of experience in the aspects of emergency management.

His senior leadership experience covers multiple professional and volunteer positions. He has been a volunteer fire chief, a unit coordinator for a MRC unit, and a senior paramedic to name a few.  His paramedic skills are well above average.  His firefighter experience covers structural firefighting, driver operator, and wild land firefighting.

His educational achievements includes two AAS; Emergency Medical Services and Fire Service, and an AGS (Criminal Justice).  He is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Business Management.  In addition he has completed many FEMA courses, including earning a Certificate of Achievement: Professional Development Series.  He has also attended multiple courses at the Center for Domestic Preparedness.  His curriculum vitae demonstrates that Brian is an adult learner who pursues, and enjoys, a wide variety of educational opportunities.

Brian founded the website sharpemergencypreparedness.com He is an instructor (and self-produced) the course Basic Emergency Planning on UDEMY.com.  He enjoys teaching, mentoring, and working with other people.

He is an avid outdoorsman and an active husband and father.  He displays a can do attitude in the various aspects of his life, while using his humor to enjoy the journey.
